Aussies On The Podium at Cremona

Australian karters have enjoyed success on Day 2 of the Champions Of The Future Academy round at Cremona, Italy.

James Anagnostiadis crossed the line first in the OK-N Junior final while Pip Casabene placed second in OK-N Senior.

Anagnostiadis, who is now signed to the Mercedes F1 Junior Program, qualified fastest and won the opening heat, but was punted off and DNFd heat two.

Starting the final 6th, he was into the lead on lap three and gradually edged away to a 3.42s win. However, he knew there was a front fairing penalty coming, shaking his head as he took the chequered flag. James was eventually classified third as Ella Hakkinen was promoted to the win. He sits second in the Championship standings.

In Senior, Casabene couldn’t light up the timing screen in the wet conditions like he had in the dry the day prior, qualifying ninth followed by heat results that put him off P15 for the final. With the track mostly dry and everyone on slicks, Pip charged back up the order, taking second place in the final and sits third in the Championship standings.

However, nobody was going to catch Luna Fluxa who stamped her authority on the class by winning the Senior finals on both days. Her victory meant both Day 2 wins in OK-N were taken by females.
