Griff Breaks at Champions Of The Future

Europe-based Australian Griffin Peebles will be out of action for the next two months after suffering a serious wrist break at the second round of Champions of the Future Euro Series at Zuera, Spain, on the weekend.

Starting up the back of the last Junior heat on Saturday, Peebles was involved in an opening lap clash, putting him out of the race and into hospital.

“Yesterday was a difficult day” Griff posted on social media. “I didn’t expect my race weekend to finish riding in an ambulance and undergoing immediate surgery to fix my fractured elbow and both compound fractures in my wrist”

“Big thanks to the track medics, ambulance team and the kind hospital staff plus RGMMC and also for all the best wishes I have received from my teammates and Koski Motorsport and other mates from the track.

Peebles has undergone two surgeries and is expected to be out of action for eight weeks.

Prior to the incident, he was in the process of recovering from another bad qualifying (62nd of 72) with encouraging heat results 13-17-13-20, but then the crash and DNF.

Dante Vinci (Shamick Europe, Parolin/TM) ended the event 67th, thus missing the Final. He’d previously qualified 69th, had moved up to 59th after heats of 18-21-21-17-15, but was DQd from the Super Heat.

Peebles’ Koski Motorsport teammate Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) won OK Junior, while Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR Motorsport, KR/IAME) took victory in OK.
