Karting Australia heard the backlash, consulted with a State Karting Council and has now changed the eligibility criteria for several state-based series.

Essentially, drivers from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania can now all compete in Victorian State Series events. Drivers from SA, VIC and the Broken Hill club (NSW) can compete in South Australian State Series events. Other state regs are unchanged from earlier publication.

The Karting Australia update that was published on the organisation’s website today, can be read below.

As a matter of interest, KartSportNews ran a reader poll a few weeks back about the matter, nearly 84% declaring they did not agree with the new State Series restrictions.

UPDATED STATE REGULATIONS FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA AND VICTORIA RELEASED

Karting Australia, together with Karting South Australia and Karting Victoria, has finalised updates to the State Regulations relating to entry eligibility for their respective State Series competition.

State Regulations recognise the differing needs of competition in each state with a focus of enhancing competition at a local level.

Initial eligibility requirements were based on the previously expressed position by SA Club Presidents and other senior personnel in South Australian karting that significant numbers of their licence holders competing interstate in Victorian Country Series and Golden Power Competitions was adversely affecting South Australian competitions and that Karting Australia should do whatever they could to assist them.

The initial measures aimed to reinforce state-based racing and support the sustainability of their local Festival State Cup series.

Since the release of the revised eligibility through State Regulations, Karting Australia has received feedback from some SA Club representatives that the impact on SA karting was not a major concern to them. For absolute clarity, KA asked the South Australian State Karting Council (the Clubs) to confirm whether they supported lifting the interstate restrictions.

We have now been advised that the position of Karting SA is that we request that the restriction of SA competitors competing interstate be removed and allow them to compete in interstate series. We also request that restriction on interstate competitors being allowed to compete in South Australian series be removed.

Karting SA has advised that they are committed to building its home State Series and will be reaching out to KA to work through the issues to try achieve that goal.

Consequently, the South Australian and Victorian State Regulations have now been revised to adjust entry eligibility settings for their respective series.

In addition, the focus on strengthening local competition through entry eligibility in each state has been supported by the Presidents of other State Associations, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable state-based racing. While the regulations prioritise local competition, individual cases where competitors are unable to access suitable categories in series events within their home state may be considered for approval to compete in a series in another state.

Karting Australia is committed to working collaboratively with its State Associations and clubs to ensure regulations best support participation, competitive depth and the long-term development of the sport.

Further details on the revised eligibility criteria are available within the relevant State Regulations that are available via links to the KA website, below.
