William Blair encountered an emotional day at Launceston Kart Club on Sunday, taking out the KA3 Cup for Senior Medium before winning the annual Bec Wyatt Memorial feature race.

Prior to the feature, Harry Bresnehan won the “Prelude to the Bec Wyatt Memorial” for junior drivers, ahead of Elanah Rankin and Ayrton Myers.

Having been involved in karting for around 10 years, Blair started in Cadets and has moved all the way through to seniors, winning just about every title along the way.

“Over the past ten years, Will has made many friends in the karting world, and none more so than the Wyatts” the club posted.

“Zane (Wyatt) has been Will’s mentor for so many years and going in and out of his workshop and the family home over the years, Will became very close to entire Wyatt family, including Bec.

“Of the racers on the track yesterday, a good number didn’t have the privilege of meeting Bec, but Will did. Will knew Bec and loved Bec. And yesterday, he won for Bec.

“From the race starting with Zane in kart 47 and their parents enjoying a line of honour from the racers in the senior feature, the immense depth of emotion for Will starting this race could not have been underestimated.
Congratulations Will, and thank you for honouring Bec in finest way possible. The tears were real.”
