A landmark deal has been struck to have the remaining rounds of the Australian Kart Championship broadcast on 7plus Sport – the Seven Network’s digital streaming platform.
The 7plus coverage will kick off with Round Two at Murray Bridge, South Australia on May 3-4, and will feature more than eight hours of live racing across the two days.
Having been constrained behind a paywall the last few years, the shackles came off the AKC coverage for the opening round of 2025, the action from Todd Rd streaming live and free on YouTube to a potential global audience.
The 7plus broadcast will place a national spotlight on the sport’s top emerging talent. Over 340 competitors from Australia, New Zealand and Asia will compete across eight classes at the next round.
Of course, this will not be the first time high-level karting has been broadcast on free-to-air TV (the Bendigo Street GP was telecast live on commercial television and the Castrol International Kart Prix on the ABC in the 1980s, just to name two) but it will be the first time on 7plus Sport, a recognised professional free-to-view sports streaming service.
“Motorsport is an integral part of our sport offering on 7plus, and we’re thrilled to welcome the Australian Kart Championship to the platform,” said Renee Quirk, Seven Network Commercial Director – Sport.
“At Seven, we are extremely passionate about the growth of all sporting codes from the grassroots to the elite, and we look forward to welcoming new, engaged audiences to the 2025 Australian Kart Championship and to showcase the drivers’ skill to a national audience.”
Karting Australia Chief Executive Officer Kelvin O’Reilly praised the partnership, calling it a major step forward for the sport.
“To have the SP Tools Australian Kart Championship streamed live on 7plus Sport is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our sport to a broader audience and have karting recognised as a genuine and exciting form of motorsport,” said O’Reilly.
“We are really looking forward to working with the incredible team at the Seven Network and bringing this to life on screens and devices across the country alongside some of Australia’s most popular programs and sports.”
To tune in to the action, fans can either visit 7plus.com.au, or download the 7plus app on a smart TV, computer or mobile device.
The AKC represents the true breeding ground for Australian motorsport, where current Formula 1 drivers like Oscar Piastri and Jack Doohan once honed their craft before reaching the world stage.
