Mullet Drives Change

Queensland junior driver Gabriel Elkayam is growing out a “magnificent mullet” in support of mental health.

Many know the 12-year-old as a dedicated kart racer with over 80 trophies to his name. He’s also a bit of a larrikin who enjoys creating zany content and making others laugh.

But it’s Gabriel’s desire to contribute that sets him apart, using his online and track presence to raise funds for charity.

His latest endeavour is to grow and show off a magnificent mullet to support the Black Dog Institute’s ‘Mullets for Mental Health’ initiative. This unique and fun campaign aims to raise awareness and funds for mental health research and suicide prevention services.

“A lot of people, especially young men, struggle with mental health and don’t know how to get help” Gabirel informed KartSportNews.

“I was shocked to learn that nine Australians die from suicide every day. That’s really sad. So, if all it takes is a fun haircut to spark conversations and support this worthy cause, then I’m in!”

Throughout April, Gabriel will be showing off his mullet at his local tracks, including Ipswich Kart Club and competing in Junior Top Guns in Warwick this weekend, making sure that everyone knows he’s racing for a cause close to his heart.

The funds raised will go directly to the Black Dog Institute, supporting their crucial work in mental health research, education, and advocacy.
