Hall of Fame for Dave Sera

by David Sera

It’s an incredible honor to be inducted into the Karting Australia Hall of Fame. To be recognized among so many great names in our sport is truly humbling, and it gives me a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible 30-year journey in karting.

Karting has been my life. From the first time I sat in a kart at age 3 in my parent’s garage, I was hooked. The speed, the competition, the thrill of winning—it became an obsession.

But as much as this journey has been about racing, it has also been about the people who stood beside me, pushed me forward, and supported me through every challenge and triumph.

First and foremost, my family. None of this would have been possible without them. Their sacrifices, their unwavering belief in me, and their countless hours spent at racetracks across the world have been the foundation of everything I’ve achieved.

Mum (Gizelle) & Dad (George) you gave me every opportunity to chase my dreams, and I can’t thank you enough for that. You dedicated your lives to work tirelessly so that I could race, which is all I wanted to do as a kid.  From the age of 5 when I started driving, every weekend would be spent at a kart track trying to improve my skills, whilst watching Dad & James flying around the track.

I wanted to be like you guys & although I wasn’t a quick starter, you kept encouraging  & believing in me.

To my wife (Pree) and kids (Jesse & Zoe), thank you for understanding the long hours, the travel, and the dedication this sport demands. Your love and support mean everything.

To my cousin James. You were like my brother growing up around the karting circuits. I looked up to you in karting and I appreciate not only your coaching, love & support over the years, but the opportunities we had to compete against one another. To think we have 24 Australian championships between us, when neither of us had any clue to begin with is incredible.

I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to have had the support from many people that have influenced the trajectory of my racing career.

The Price family (Dave, Drew, Donna & Bart) from DP Karts & Drew Price Engineering. You’ve been instrumental throughout my career. From Dave Price spending countless hours on the dyno, to giving me a few colourful words of encouragement, I knew you always wanted the best for me.

Drew & Bart Price supporting me throughout my career with Arrow Karts. Their generosity, their guidance, and their shared passion for karting have played a massive role in my journey. They’ve been there through the highs and the lows, and I will always be grateful for their belief in me.

Darren Hossack was my mechanic for a number of years.

Hoss, your meticulous attention to detail and ability to get the most out of the kart gave me the confidence to push my limits every time I hit the track. I still recount my years racing with the DPE team as my most treasured moments in my karting career travelling the country with yourself, Bart & Adam Klunyk. You hated losing, which is something I hated to & your winning attitude pushed me to win races I didn’t think were sometimes achievable.

Anthony Bartolo from J&A Tuning, the power and reliability you extracted from my engines were second to none. Hours upon hours, researching, dynoing & tuning, to give me every chance possible I don’t take for granted. You took time away from your family to always search for more, that enabled me to win races. Knowing I had both of you behind me gave me the edge I needed to compete at the highest level. I couldn’t have done it without you.

To everyone who has been part of my journey—teammates, competitors, officials, and the wider karting community—thank you. This sport has given me so much more than just race wins and trophies. It has taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of hard work.

It has given me friendships that will last a lifetime and memories that I will cherish forever.

Being inducted into the Karting Australia Hall of Fame is not just an individual achievement—it’s a testament to everyone who has been a part of my journey. I share this honor with you all.

Thank you.
