Different Classes on Consecutive Evenings

by Russell Innes

Ipswich Kart Club will kick off their 2025 Club Championship with Round 1 on Friday the 31st of January and Saturday the 1st of February and will try a very different format, with 6 classes competing on Friday evening and the other 6 classes competing on Saturday evening. With most of the racing each day being conducted of a night under lights, competitors, officials and volunteers will avoid most of the extreme heat and humidity usually experienced this time of the year at Ipswich.

The classes competing on Friday evening are predominately Senior classes, with TAG Light, TAG Heavy, TAG Restricted Light, TAG Restricted Medium, KA3 Senior and KA2 Junior on the programme. On Saturday evening the classes competing will be Cadet 9, Cadet 12, KA3 Junior Light, KA3 Junior Heavy, TAG Restricted Masters and KZ2/DD2/Qld Open Performance.

The format for the race meeting will be:

Friday 31st January

10.00am – Gates open
12.00pm to 2.30pm – Social Karting Activity (Tickets to be purchased through KOMP) and only available for those who are racing in one of the classes on Friday night.
4.00pm Drivers Briefing
4.30pm to 10.30pm – Racing (3 Heats and a Final)

Saturday 1st February

10.00am – Gates open
12.00pm to 2.30pm – Social Karting Activity (Tickets to be purchased through KOMP) and only available for those who are racing in one of the classes on Saturday night.

Early indications are that there will be a strong representation from interstate competitors and they are reminded of the AKC Host Club rules which means they may not be able to participate in the Friday or Saturday Social Karting Activity.

KA2 Junior and KZ2 will be contesting the 1st Round of the 3 Round Pineapple Cup, with the 2nd Round on 1st March and the 3rd Round on the 10th and 11th of May as part of the Ipswich Race of Champions (IROC)

Entries will open at 6.00pm on Wednesday the 15th of January and entries per class are capped at 40.
