Rising karting talent Aiden Schweikert took a significant step forward in his motorsport journey, completing a successful Formula Vee test at Calder Park Raceway. This opportunity, provided by Akurra Motorsport, was a reward for Aiden winning the prestigious Best and Fairest Award at the Junior Sprint Race hosted by Eastern Lions Kart Club in October.
In preparation for the test, Aiden visited the Akurra Motorsport factory for a seat fitting. Due to his young age, finding the perfect setup for the Formula Vee car was a unique challenge.
With minimal prior exposure to a manual gearbox, Aiden’s preparation included a drift day with Kevin Flynn from Driver Dynamics and simulator training on iRacing.
Remarkably, his first time driving on Calder Park Raceway was on the day of the test itself. Despite these hurdles, Aiden delivered an outstanding performance, demonstrating maturity and skill far beyond his years.
Lucas Khawam, owner of Akurra Motorsport, was full of praise for Aiden:
“I was highly impressed with Aiden’s maturity and performance. He adapted very quickly to driving a Formula car, and his pace was extremely competitive. We look forward to working further with Aiden in the future in support of his transition to open-wheeler racing.”
Aiden’s thoughts on the day:
“I enjoyed driving the Formula Vee. It was challenging at first, but overall a great experience that I’m grateful for. I want to say thank you to Lucas and Rocco from Akurra for the help and advice.”
The day was a resounding success, with Aiden achieving competitive lap times and adapting seamlessly to the challenges of an H-pattern gearbox. This milestone marks an exciting step in his journey from karting to car racing.
