A fantastic weekend away with Retro Karting Australia at Pucka! It was a record number of entries making it RKA’s biggest ever. Running in ‘reverse’ direction, there was some extraordinary racing throughout the weekend which kept everyone on the edge of their seats!

The Finals

Clubman Light (28 entries)

The Clubman Light class was the biggest of the weekend and in a 28 kart final it was action packed from lap one! Travis Lichtenberger started out of fourth and by lap 9 he’d forced his way to second, but Andrew Riddell had other ideas and got that place back. So, Lichtenberger third and Riddell second, finishing behind the new nationals Clubman Light champion Chris Sandrone who started on pole, was pushed back to third mid race but in true gritty style fought back to first in lap 8 and wouldn’t be caught from there.

F100 Heavy (13 entries)

The F100 Heavy final didn’t let us down filling the spectator areas around the circuit. A lap-one-turn-one incident saw two karts come together, resulting in Greg Ritter unfortunately going no further in the final, having been in the top three all weekend. Another podium contender who didn’t finish was Matt Wall stopping on lap 9. Max de Meyrick had a fabulous weekend and got himself a great 3rd place. Second was Ryan Aitken who was in the top two all weekend and very consistent! The win went to Paul Rodgers who started on the second row, got to the lead on lap 8 and never looked back. After the engine drama he had throughout the weekend, this was a fitting reward for himself and his dad who is now a national championship winning engine builder!

An astonishing start to the F100 Light final saw six karts get caught up in a lap-one-turn-one incident, leaving four karts to contest the remainder of the 15 lap final. Reif Corbett avoided the incident and brought his kart home in 4th and the first podium position went to Jackson Evans. Anthony Mrhar threw everything at the final and brought his #89 machine home in 2nd. The win went to Steven Riddell who posted the fastest lap of the final and was just unstoppable.

Clubman Super Heavy (21 entries)

In the Clubman Super Heavy David Musgrave was outstanding all weekend and got a very deserved win to be crowned champion. Aaron Jackson, after an indifferent weekend for him, never gave up and was eventually rewarded for his efforts with second place. But the drive of the day has to go to Ryan Portelli who dnf’d the pre-final meaning a rear of grid start in the final and he came through the field passing 18 karts to get the last step of the podium.

Clubman Heavy (19 entries)

Clubman Heavy class was a real tussle at the start with James Taylor taking the lead on turn one in a field packed with talent. Taylor gradually faded in the first half of the race to 6th but then fought back strongly to 4th. Trent Palmer was 5 seconds up the road securing third for himself and another podium for the Tasmanians. Stephen Roffe was one of the favourites at the start of the weekend but this time he had to play second fiddle to Trevor Whitby who looked unbeatable all weekend long.
