Pole at Champions of The Future

William Calleja qualified fastest at the latest round of the Champions Of The Future Euro Series, but was not able to bring home a podium.

Competing in OK-Junior at the Slovakia Ring for the first time, Calleja and team were not able to keep abreast of the changing track conditions and fell to 12th after the heats.

William Calleja

“A progressive race weekend with strong pace in qualifying… although we had some challenges with pace as the track conditions changed” he explained. “I was able to get a few top fives in the heats and superheat.”

Calleja interviewed after qualifying pole:

Meanwhile in the OK category. Lewis Francis qualified strongly (fifth) but he too suffered in the heats and dropped to 26th. He fired up to 18th in the opening lap of the final, before the race was red flagged due to a crash that blocked the track. He then DNF’d after it was re-started.

“Overall, it was a positive week, with great speed shown throughout the weekend” Francis surmised. “A crash in the final ended my race prematurely while fighting for a strong result.”
