International Karting Distributors (IKD) has been re-appointed the official Rotax karting importer and distributor for Australia, effective from 1 May 2024.
“We have never stopped believing in the Rotax project and that Rotax engines are outstanding products and we are glad to be back in the Rotax family!” IKD stated.
After taking over the distribution from DPE in 2008, IKD was previously the Australian Rotax distributor for 12 years, from 2008 to 2020.
“We are very proud of the job we did during this time” IKD continued. “The great success of the Rotax Pro Tour which produced 3 World Champions and 11 podiums at the Rotax Grand Finals show the immense potential of karters in Australia.”
RaceMax had been serving the Australian market during a challenging period from January 2021 until today. Richard & Tania Bethune managed the distribution from their nearby home in New Zealand.
“We have found that the efforts to serve and develop the market of Australia for Rotax are extraordinarily difficult” said Richard Bethune of RaceMax in the official BRP-Rotax announcement.

“With IKD having a well-established network already in place and the willingness of Ian Black to take on this challenge, the deal for the transfer has been finalised”.
The Bethunes & Right Karts will continue to focus resources for the development of Rotax Racing products in their home market of New Zealand.
Ian Black (IKD) stated, “I am excited to be part of the Rotax family again. Rotax provides great products for karting and myself and the team at IKD are looking forward to serve the Australian market. I am confident there will be exciting times ahead for Rotax racers in Australia.
