Great Barrier Reef Titles

from Kev ‘The Noise’ Davies

Another great race weekend at Whitsundays Kart Club this year for the Jess Golding Motorsport 2023 Great Barrier Reef titles.

The event was run over two days with practice, qualifying & two heats on Saturday, then heats 3 & 4 plus the finals on Sunday.

The Noise and the Cranky Croc!

Jess Golding, having never seen this track before, let alone drive it in both directions, managed to qualify first then win every heat race and the final in TaG 125 Restricted Light. She broke the lap record on Saturday and then was made to work really hard on Sunday as Dylan Dunston was the quickest driver on Sunday but just couldn’t get past Jess.

Young Cruz Patroni got a great win in Cadet 12 and Arian Appruzzese was dominant in the Cadet 9s. First time racer Asher Telford got the victory in TaG Restricted Medium against another first time racer – and this was no ordinary first time racer! – Alex Aasal is a mere 72 years of age!! Yes you can start racing at the ripe old age of 72 and have great fun too.

Lara “the explorer” Hadlow got a hard fought victory just beating “Damo” Damian White who earlier in the weekend lowered the lap record. Emilee Ceccato overcame a DNF in the heats to came back and win the final. Leo “the rocket” Rodriguez got the victory over Bryan “bomber” Reitano.

KA3 Juniors Light and Heavy had some interesting heats with Cody Metcalfe winning the Heavy class but getting right amongst the Lights. Jake Lydom was the class of the Light class with Ky Brennan & Charlie McQuinn running him close! A word for Shea Pieterson in the 4SS kart, having an absolute blast racing against Alex Masal.

Next year promises to be bigger and better and the Cranky Croc still luvs us!

Prize winners thanks to the fabulous sponsors: Jess Golding Motorsport, Redcat Adventures, Onsite Lifting, Bendigo Bank, Whitsundays Karts and Parts.
