Australian junior karter Lewis Francis finished in the top ten at the fourth round of the Belgian IAME Championship at Genk last weekend.
Competing in X30 Junior aboard a VDK Racing Kart Republic chassis, Francis said the IAME Series Benelux was a great new challenge and overall the weekend was very positive.
“After learning and improving each session on a new and challenging track and tyre, I qualified 5th in group and P9 overall out of 62 drivers, which we were happy with for my first time racing X30 in Europe.”
After some strong races, but also some poor luck with a penalty in the last heat, he started the final from grid 12.
“After an off-track excursion at turn 1 in the final, I dropped back to near the rear end of the field. But with great pace and perseverance I managed to fight my way to P10 at the chequered flag which was a great result considering the circumstances.
“It was a really fun weekend with my brother on the tools and I’d like to give a big thank you to VKK Racing for their support this weekend.
“I’m now looking forward to the last four races of the season in Franciacorta.”
