Podiums & PBs for JGM Drivers

Jess Golding Motorsport showcased their talent and determination at Round 6 of the Ipswich Kart Club Championship held under stunning winter weather, providing optimum track conditions for the drivers. The event featured the TaG Restricted Titles with qualifying sessions for all drivers, and a new track layout that added an extra challenge to the competition. With five mini-team members representing JGM, the drivers put on an impressive display of skill and sportsmanship throughout the weekend.

Lucas Lesmes demonstrated his prowess on the track, qualifying on the front row in P2. He secured another podium finish with a P3, with his smart and calculated driving strategy earning him valuable Championship points towards his 2023 KA3 Jnr Heavy campaign where he currently holds the lead. Notably, Lucas also set the fourth fastest lap of the day, further solidifying his exceptional on-track performance.

Starting the weekend from the middle of a 24-kart grid in the feature category TaG Restricted Light, Matt Price showcased his determination and racing spirit. Despite the fierce competition, he skilfully carved his way through the pack to cross the finish line in a personal best P10 in the final.

”The race format of qualifying, 2 heats and a final is a fantastic format” Golding commented. “It sets up the grid in order of pace to minimise incidents and is wonderful experience for those looking to step up into State and National competition. All our drivers performed on Saturday and banked solid championship points for themselves and the team. We could not be prouder for taking home three trophies.”

Cadet 12 driver Xavier Knight had an eventful weekend, qualifying just behind his teammate AJ in P11. Throughout the heats, he displayed steady progress, moving up two spots in both heat 1 and heat 2. Starting the final in P8 he was unfortunately tapped into a full 360 spin in a racing incident. Despite the setback, Xavier displayed resilience, finishing the final in P13.

Fellow Cadet 12 driver Alister Leggatt (AJ) faced some challenges during the qualifying session due to traffic, but that didn’t deter him from shining throughout the weekend. Consistently racing within the top 10, AJ’s determination and skill earned him a hard-fought P11 finish in the final. His efforts were rewarded with the Club Day Challenge trophy win in his group, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Our Cadet 9 driver Oliver Jones came into this weekend with something to prove and his on-track performance was nothing short of impressive, as he demonstrated continuous improvement in every race. His consistency and determination paid off, securing him the Club Day Challenge win in his respective group, and providing a real confidence boost for the upcoming races.

The entire Jess Golding Motorsport team showed great camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout the weekend, making their presence felt both on and off the track. With their determination and talent, the team looks forward to further success in the upcoming rounds of the Ipswich Kart Club Championship heading into the final two races for the year.

”It was a very promising event for the team with solid results all round. We now start prepping for Round 7 of the Club Championship on September 2 followed by the 2023 QLD State Cup which is due to be held at Ipswich Kart Club on September 29 – October 1″ Golding said.
