The Alan Cox Cup

from Kev ‘The Noise’ Davies

Had a cracking weekend down in chilly Tamworth for the 2023 ‘The Broken Spoke’ Alan Cox Cup. Foggy conditions greeted the drivers at the start of the day on Saturday, but the track soon warmed up once the fog lifted!

Stand out classes with competitive racing were the Rookies, TaG Restricted Light, TaG Restricted Heavy & the TaG 125 Lights. This 700 + metre track certainly provides excellent racing with multiple overtaking opportunities!

Huge thanks to the sponsors who made such an effort with prize money and other products going to drivers – Kenway Clark, Garage 94, Eagle Power Sports, Brokenspoke, ARB Tamworth, Tamworth Building Supplies all helped to make it such a great event at this small country NSW club.

All the action once again speaks for itself which is of course why I video every race I attend, but lately as well as video recording races they are now all live on the day, allowing family members and supporters who cannot attend to watch their favourite drivers in action in real time. This alone makes it all worthwhile with many compliments received!

Winning 4 prizes chosen by me for their efforts over the weekend were the following “Garage 94 “ prize winners Commentators Pick:

  1. Novices – Lucas Dorn for his relentless pressure and endurance on OLD tyres doing so well all weekend!
  2. Rookies – Cooper James Clavell, absolutely fabulous battles with one and only local legend young “Goose” Angus Maxworthy, meaning a well deserved prize
  3. Junior Heavy – Diesel Compton, in the face of extremely good competition, Diesel did not waiver and continued to strive for a better position
  4. TaG Restricted Light – Cabard Indy Avard Ray, even after misfortune mid way through heats, Cabard absolutely never gave up chasing the super fast Salverstrin pairing.
