On Track With Mat – February Update

Hello Team, welcome to my February Update – 2023. What have we been up to?

The racing season is now in full swing. The 2 main Victorian Kart Race Series which are The Victorian Country Series and The Victorian Golden Power Series have just kicked off and the great news to come away from Round 1 of each of these series, is that I am the clear points leader. Check out the detailed report below.

Racing Update

Victorian Country Series Round 1

The first round of the Victorian Country Series was held on the 4th and 5th of February at Cobden.

Heading into the first round, I really felt confident that we could make a strong showing and come away with some good points.

When the lights went out, I was able to perform flawlessly and take home maximum points and take the series lead heading into Round 2 in May. You can read the full race report by CLICKING HERE

Victorian Golden Power Series Round 1

The first round of the Victorian Golden Power Series kicked off at the mighty Puckupunyal Kart Track just outside of Seymour. Last year I was unable to compete in all 6 rounds due to COVID so this year I was looking to make amends and I won all the races except for the final. I was nudged from behind coming into the first turn and dropped 2 wheels into the dirt. I fought my way back to a strong second place finish but walked away with the series lead. Below is an exert from a KartSportNews article.

KA3 Heavy was a whirlwind all weekend, with action everywhere throughout the heats amidst several kart pile-ups. Mathew Basso was adamant to stamp his authority early on, taking pole position over Cooper Synfield, Hugo Garraway, Alex Cirone, and Angus Fletcher. Basso continued his winning trend, storming to victory throughout the heats despite Synfield’s uber pace in the second and third heats, who maintained P2 and Garraway P3.

Drama in the final from the get-go, with Darsyn Harris marching from fifth to P1 immediately, Synfield P2, and Basso relegated to P5. The contact resulted in Harris dropping to P7, with Synfield occupying the lead and not looking back. Basso mounted an admirable challenge setting the fastest lap of the race in pursuit, but Synfield’s consistency and race management ensured the win.
