Levi Lord made his return to his home track of the Eastern Lions Kart Club for the 40th running of the Junior Sprint Classic. Lord was once again running in the young but tough Cadet 9 field up against some of the best young drivers in the country.
Lord was looking forward to a fun weekend of racing in the sunny and dry conditions! Lord utilised his Saturday morning practice before heading into qualifying against the quality field. The Elixir Compounding Pharmacy sponsored entry got straight into his work and was into the top 10 drivers in the session. Levi was pushing hard and was producing solid lap speed in the high-quality field of drivers! Lord stopped the clock in position 8 overall putting himself off the 4th row of the grid.
Heat 1 was on Saturday afternoon and Levi was excited to go racing around the 1064 metre circuit. The Apex Trusses backed entry got a clean get away and settled into position 8 and was trying to keep up with the drivers ahead of him. Lord was pushing out strong lap speed while settling in 8th position for majority of the heat. Levi crossed the line in position 8 overall and was only 1 second behind the driver ahead of him!
The final race for Saturday was heat 2 and Levi was looking to improve his pace and try and move up positions. Lord got a great start and was into position 7 on the opening lap and had his head down trying to set speed that would have him in the fight for the top 5. The Pulse Tuning sponsored entry had found a couple of tenths in pace and wasn’t far behind the drivers ahead of him. Levi crossed the line in position 7 overall to finish a solid Saturday’s racing!
Heat 3 was up early on Sunday morning and Levi was looking for another consistent result. Lord slotted into position 8 on the opening lap and was trying hard to make his way back forward. The Roberts Plumbing backed entry was pushing hard and was able to move forward into 7th spot in the back end of the race. Lord came home with another consistent finish, crossing the line in position 7 overall in another good showing!
The final heat race was heat 4 and Lord was looking to make up every bit of ground he could going into the final. Levi slotted into position 8 off the start but didn’t quite have the pace to go with the front group of 7, who were all very close together. Lord continued to push hard and put in improved lap times from his early race on Sunday. Levi crossed the line in position 8 overall with another strong top 10 finish.
The championship decider over 15 laps was going to be a brutal race and Lord was starting out of position 7 overall. The Elixir Compounding Pharmacy backed entry settled into position 8 on the opening lap, but quickly made his way into 7th position overall. Levi put in another fast and consistent performance to race throughout the top 10 across the whole race. Lord emerged from the last lap carnage to grab his best result of the weekend in position 5 overall in a brilliant weekend of racing!
Levi’s parents spoke post weekend on their young son’s progression and racing over the weekend. “Levi had some great pace throughout the weekend however he fell short of the top 5 throughout the heats. A few things fell his way during the final which pushed him up onto the podium in 5th position. We have learnt a lot throughout this year’s season and continue to develop as the year progresses.
“As parents are incredibly proud of Levi’s perseverance and consistency throughout the weekend. This weekend’s result wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our friends Terry Asquith, Jo Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, together with Glenn Riddell and Steve Riddell from Pulse Tuning who gave up their weekend to assist us. Our thanks also to LRL50Racing’s sponsors Elixir Compounding Pharmacy, Apex Trusses, Robert’s Plumbing who continue to believe in and support Levi. We are now looking forward to the Round 6 of the Golden Power Series at Gippsland Kart Club.”
