Top Five at Round Five

Aiden Schweikert made the trip to the 5th round of the Victorian Golden Power Series over the weekend. Schweikert made the trip back to the Rochester Kart Club where he completed in his first open meeting in 2021 and was excited for a big weekend of racing. Aiden was hot off a podium finish at the recent Australasian Kart Titles and was looking for more strong results!

Aiden hit the track for Saturday morning qualifying and was looking to get towards the front of the 27 kart Cadet 12 field. The Link Airways backed entry was able to quickly make his way into the top 10 and was pushing towards the top 5. Schweikert set a lap which put him to 5th fastest but he was still trying to make up more positions in the session. Aiden stopped the clock in position 5 overall which he was excited to now try and build on.

Heat 1 was the first race of the weekend and Schweikert was looking to grab good points and move up the grid. The Jeremy Cross Physiotherapy sponsored entry got a clean get away and slotted into position 5. The top 3 drivers managed to open up a margin but Aiden was pushing hard on the back of Jack Jenkins in position 4. Schweikert got within a tenth of Jenkins in 4th and crossed the line inside the top 5 in 5th spot.

Heat 2 was the final race of Saturday and Aiden had the eyes forward to move up spots on the track. Schweikert got a nice start and jumped up to position 4 by the end of the opening lap. The G & L Motor Repairs and Performance backed entry was right in the battle for 3rd spot and swapped positions across the middle stages of the race. Aiden didn’t quite have enough to hold down 3rd spot but crossed the line in 4th position overall in a great Saturday’s racing!

Position 4 was the starting position for Schweikert on Sunday morning and he was ready to go to battle. The Haley Hire backed entry got a clean start and jumped straight into position 4 on the back of the top 3. Aiden was showing excellent pace matching the speed of the lead drivers ahead of him while trying to keep on the back of 3rd spot. Aiden wasn’t able to move up any positions across the race but came home with another top 5 in position 4.

The nerves were in the air coming into the final and Aiden was ready to give it everything he had. The Motiv8 sponsored entry got a lighting start to be battling for the lead on the opening lap. Schweikert was shuffled back in the middle stages in the top 5 battle, but regrouped on the back of the top 4. Aiden drove a superb race and was right in the battle for 4th spot. Schweikert was able to cross the line in 5th spot in a great result for the young driver.

Aiden spoke post weekend on his results across the 2 days. “I had a great weekend, improved a lot and had a lot of fun We’ve been working hard on how we go racing and it seems to be helping and I can’t wait for the final round”.

Schweikert now looks to the remainder of the 2022 season for strong results.
