KRISTIANSTAD KARTING KLUBB – ALWAYS AT THE FOREFRONT OF EVENT ORGANISATION

The Swedish Åsum Ring has successfully hosted an FIA Karting event every year since 2014. 2020 was an exception to this habit due to the pandemic. With undisguised joy, the Kristianstad Karting Klubb team was able to host the FIA Karting World Championship – KZ from 3rd to 5th September 2021 together with the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2 and the final round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

Here is an interview with Magnus Hedman, the club president.

MAGNUS, HOW IS THE KRISTIANSTAD KARTING KLUBB DOING?

Everything is going well for us, thank you! The team has changed slightly since 2012, but the spirit has remained the same. Some of us have had to take a break from karting for personal or professional reasons, but we can count on a core of loyal enthusiasts. Our aim is always to improve the quality of our events over time. Our collaboration with the CIK-FIA and the promoter RGMMC is pleasant and efficient. The trust that the FIA shows in us to organise an international event every year allows us to grow our reputation and to get more support in our country as well as locally.

IN THIS RESPECT, WHO ARE YOUR MAIN PARTNERS?

We can’t thank the city of Kristianstad and Visit Skane enough for their support over the years – they are great partners. Karting needed to make itself known in the region and create an audience. The local press has been very supportive and we are now well established. Our activity is increasingly understood and appreciated by the private companies in the region, who support us substantially, both in terms of services and financially.

WHAT IS YOUR BALANCE SHEET FOR 2021?

Fortunately for us, in this difficult period for COVID-19, our 2021 FIA Karting event was quite late in the calendar. So we had time to plan the event and make the most of it. Last year we had to cancel our CIK-FIA event and that hurt us a lot.

I don’t think anyone can complain about anything in this year’s competition, it was a great success! We saw some great racing, there was a good atmosphere and good weather and the return of the public to the stands, which we haven’t seen for a long time, completed the picture.

Behind the scenes we work with competent staff who have worked with us over the years and it gives you a sense of security as an organiser to know that you always have the best circumstances to deliver great events.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR KRISTIANSTAD KARTING KLUBB?

We are always working on improving our business. We are already preparing for the organisation of the 2022 FIA Karting event, the third round of the OK & Junior European Championship, at the beginning of June by trying to surprise our regular guests in a good way.

We regularly develop our infrastructures according to our means. For example, we are about to install solar panels capable of supplying a third of our total electricity consumption. We don’t have time to be bored!

This year’s FIA Karting competition was a great success!
