Driver PR: Lucas Costanzo, ELKC Race Day

Lucas Costanzo took to the final round of Eastern Lions Kart Club Championship over the weekend. Lucas has had a stellar season in the Cadet 9 ranks but has recently moved to the Cadet 12 ranks where he is only in his third meeting in the class.

Lucas under the coaching from Luke Germanis and technical support of Pro Karting, was looking to defeat his twenty four other competitors in the Cadet 12 class. Sunday morning qualifying came around where Lucas was looking to put himself up the grid as far as possible. The Reload Electrical sponsored entry immediately put himself in the top ten and looked one of the more fancied chances to take out pole position. Lucas threw everything he had at setting a time good enough for pole position with great pace improvement throughout the session. Costanzo set a time quick enough for third position overall and put himself on the inside of the second row.

Heat one came around with Lucas wanting to be careful and making his way through the opening lap. Costanzo had a tricky get away, dropping back to position six. Lucas then had a great recovery in the next few laps, getting back up to position three. Lucas showed strong pace for the remainder of the race and was able to come home in position three in heat one.

Costanzo was once again out of position number three and was looking to improve on position. The Luvia Lighting backed entry lost time off the start but stayed in third spot to see the two leaders ahead. Lucas didn’t quite have the speed of the front two drivers but was driving away from the rest of the field. Costanzo came away with another consistent third spot in a calculated drive.

Heat three was a much better showing from young Lucas, who immediately tacked onto the back of the race leaders. Costanzo showed great pace and took over the race lead in the middle stages looking a strong chance for victory. An unfortunate small mistake cost Lucas the chance of victory dropping back to position three overall, only being two tenths of the race win.

The stage was set for an exciting final with Lucas showing he had the pace to mix it with the race leaders. The Reload Power Group backed entry set strong pace and was holding on to the back of the leaders in a hotly contested final. Costanzo threw everything he had at the front two but settled for third position only three tenths of the race leaders. Lucas took home a podium finish along with his second position in the Eastern Lions Kart Club of Club Champions!

Lucas’s father Ralph was super proud of his young boy’s finish to the year. “Couldn’t be prouder of Lucas. He had a great season and to get up to speed in Cadet 12 in only his third meeting was great. He was right with the front two and stages and we looking forward to next season”.

Lucas would like to thank his coach Luke Germanis, Pro Karting for technical support and his sponsors Reload Electrical, Luvia Lighting and Reload Power Group.
