Driver PR: Jace Mathews, Australian Champion

Jace Matthews headed into the final round of AKC at Monarto leading KA3 Senior and third in the X30 championship before drops, one of the only drivers to compete in two classes.

His focus was to not worry about the points and all the different scenarios but just be as fast as you can and it will look after itself.

KA3 Senior

Prior to heading to AKC we headed to Ipswich to test two new karts to give ourselves the best chance at winning two titles. The 2022 FA Karts where fast straight out of the box with Jace only doing one session in his KA3 kart.

From the moment it hit the track at Monarto it was fast. We only put one set of tyres on for practice and still managed to set the fastest lap in the final practice session on Friday. On Saturday in qualifying we bolted the race tyres on and managed to qualify on pole by staggering 0.271.

When the racing began the speed carried over with Jace winning every heat and the final. In the final he won by 3.8 seconds which gave him the round win and became the Australian Champion!!

X30

It was also going to be a tough ask to win two titles in one year and in X30 16 points separated four drivers. In qualifying Jace was in P1 with 15 seconds to go and he just missed out on P1 and qualified P2 by 0.016!

Heat 1 went to plan and won the race with the main championship contender in 2nd. Heat 2 it was reversed with Jenner winning with Jace P2. The trend continued in the 3rd heat with Jace P1 and Jenner P2. With these results the only way we had a chance to win was if Jenner had a DNF but he was a class act and won the final with Jace 3rd which gave Jace 2nd in the X30 championship.

Overall it was a great weekend walking away with four trophies and the National title in KA3 and second in X30. Thanks to all his sponsors: All American Drive Line – CXR Racing Engines – FA Karts Australia – family and friends
