APPOINTMENTS – Alban Martinet has been appointed CIK-FIA Executive Secretary by the President of the FIA. “Alban has been active in the world of karting for about 30 years, first as a competitor – enjoying the title of double vice-champion of Europe in the ICA (1993) and Formula A CIK-FIA (1997) categories – then, for the last 15 years, in the promotion and organization of the sport” the FIA posted.

LANDO’s LAUNCH – Video from Lando’s launching of the OTK-built LN Racing Kart, starting inside the OTK factory before heading to Lonato for the first drive, then off to Adria for a heavier session with Ricky Flynn Motorsport.


HE GOT LIFE – Life Membership was presented to Phil Lane at Karting Victoria’s recent AGM. “After many years of dedication as the State Treasurer, Phil Lane has been awarded Life Membership to the Karting Victoria family” the organisation posted. “Thankyou for all the tireless sacrifice and hard work that you have contributed to the sport of Karting over the years Phil!” Lane is already a Life Member of the Gippsland Go Kart Club.

EVENT – The self-proclaimed “world’s largest karting street race” has been confirmed for September 3-4 next year with the 27th annual Rock Island Grand Prix.

Anyone with an FIA/CIK licence can enter as, through the United States Auto Club, the race will be on the motorsports calendar of the Automobile Competition Committee for the United States (ACCUS), the official liaison to the FIA.

Each year the GP attracts more than one hundred race teams and thousands of spectators.

NO CHAMP – The FIA Karting European Superkart Championship was cancelled for 2021. FIA Karting report that as at the closing date for entries, the number of participants had not reached the minimum required for the title to be awarded. The event was scheduled to have taken place last weekend at Le Mans.

INDUSTRY SHOW – After a break of two years, the International Kart Exhibition is back in January 2022. This will be the show’s 29th edition, but for the first time held in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen, Germany. “The height of the halls offers a lot of design possibilities, our exhibitors can place their trailers directly in the hall and thus save costs and effort compared to the past,” explained expo director Marcel Fuchsberger. It will be over 10,000 sqms and “show everything you need for karting, for indoor and outdoor, racing and hobby”. SWITCH-A-ROO – Historic Karting Victoria has officially cancelled the Vintage Grand Nationals that was to have taken place at Numurkah next month. “This should be of no surprise to anyone” HKV posted, citing the various complications around covid restrictions. “However, in lieu of the Vintage Grand Nationals we have organised a social practice at Numurkah on the same weekend for our HKV members to have a run.” So, instead of ‘racing’ on November 6 and 7, karters will now ‘practice’. Full vaccination is required, a push-kart will available at the track, but the canteen will not be open.

EVENTS – Due to the re-scheduling of the Bathurst 2000, the STKC will now run its Christmas Fun Day on Saturday, December 4, leaving the 5th for everyone to watch The Great Race. The updated Tasmanian race calendar for 2021 now looks like this:


EVENT – The Bartel Classic is the next event for the Go Kart Club of South Australia. “(It’s) just a small way we can honour the many hours of work that Life Member John Bartel puts into our club” GKCSA posted. “John has had involvement with our club for 30 years now, so get your entries in and if you see him around the place make sure you say G’Day.”


CLUB – A new karting option is on the horizon in Queensland. The recently registered Cap Coast Kart Club will be holding an information session on November 6 at a proposed site for a new circuit at Yeppoon, about half way between Brisbane and Townsville. More below:
