from FIA Karting
At the end of each season since 2017, the CIK-FIA has established a specific classification for Drivers up to 16 years old participating in the FIA Karting World Championship and the FIA Karting European Championship in the OK category for the first time. The aim is to showcase the young talents who emerge from their first season at the highest level of racing.
Once again this year, around thirty Drivers met these criteria. The Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli particularly distinguished himself in this context.
Despite his injury during the World Championship Final in Portimao, he was named 2020 Rookie of the Year thanks to his convincing results in the FIA Karting European Championship – OK.
The Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/Iame/LeCont) won the FIA Karting European Championship – OK in his first year in the upper category when he was just 14 years old.
He was runner-up in the European Championship and 5th in the FIA Karting World Championship – Junior last year. He scored 117 points in the CIK-FIA ranking to become the 2020 Rookie of the Year ahead of Russia’s Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart/Vortex/LeCont) with 87 points and Brazil’s Rafael Chaves Camara (Exprit/TM Racing/LeCont) with 76 points.
