In 1980, Russell instigated the formation of the Banana Republic Kart Club, which in time became the Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club. Russell was involved in the design and construction of the Coffs Harbour City Kart Raceway between 1989 and 1991 as well as with extensions to the track in 2000. From 1993, Russell participated in Coffs Harbour race meetings and obtained karting accreditations as a clerk, a steward, a trainer and an historian. Russell was the Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club President from 1981 to 1983, Vice President in the late 1990s and Secretary in 2000. Russell continued to come & officiate at our Over 40’s event every year, last year he was our scales marshall. He will be sadly missed by our members and the wider karting community.
