New Cadets Boost Ipswich

from Russell Innes

The racing season got underway at Ipswich Kart Club on Saturday 1st February and a huge entry of 202 competitors fronted up for the 1st Round of the IKC Club Championship.

Amongst those 202 competitors were 22 new IKC members who were having their very first race meeting and amongst that was 11 Cadet drivers, who were having their first competitive outing, most of whom had come through the IKC Come and Try Day program last year.

The positive and supportive environment at Ipswich Kart Club created a very welcoming day for all the new drivers and whilst some had the inevitable challenges during the day of getting mixed up in on track incidents and a couple of DNF’s, the smiles at the end of the day obviously made it all worthwhile.

The Cadets in particular all had a great day and apart from enjoying the on track racing, they all made plenty of new friends and bonded well as a group.

To recognise the new drivers, IKC offered some P-Plate trophies for the Cadet 9 and Cadet 12 classes.

Gabriel Elkayam led the Cadet 9 P Platers all day, coming home a superb 10th overall in the Final, but 1st P Plater. Jake Ruyg followed him across the line as 2nd P Plater in Cadet 9, whilst Lucas Whiteman was 3rd in the Cadet 9 P Platers.

In Cadet 12 Jacob Whiteman, just edged out Jhet O’Brien for 1st P Plater home in the final.
