DJM Race Engineering competed at the NSW Karting Championship’s over the weekend in mixed conditions at the Eastern Creek Kart Circuit.
With a team of four drivers DJM Race Engineering consolidated the fact they are currently one of the hottest teams in karting with star driver Joshua D’Ambrosio taking another state title for the team!
D’Ambrosio, already a current South Australian State Cup winner, started from the inside of the second row in the final after running in the top three all weekend.
D’Ambrosio jumped straight up to second spot before making a move for the lead on lap three. From this point he was never challenged taking his maiden state championship.
Charlee Richardson also made the trip up and after finishing ninth in the opening heat was continually able to make improvements forward just missing the podium in the final coming home in position four.
DJM Race Engineering’s other two drivers, KA3 Junior’s Bodhi Bright and KA4 Junior Light’s Brodie Thompson, both had strong weekends with unfortunate finishes in their finals.
Bright qualified in position twelve in a disappointing session with work to do. Bright worked his way through the heats to have himself starting out of third spot for the final. Bright jumped away well but was ran off the circuit all but ending his chance at victory. Bright returned to the circuit in position nineteen and in a storming drive was able to make his way back into the top ten and finished in ninth spot.
Brodie Thompson qualified in position seven and stayed inside the top five most of the weekend, with his final heat third spot putting him in a strong position for the final. Thompson was another hard luck story of the weekend dropping a chain resulting in a DNF after running as high as third place.
DJM Race Engineering Team Owner Dylan McLellan was over the moon with the team’s results:
“Fantastic weekend by the team. Josh’s maiden state championship couldn’t be more deserved and this is huge redemption for the Victorian State Titles for him (finished third after qualifying on pole).
“Charlee pushed forward all weekend and she is improving every time she sits in the kart.
“Bodhi and Brodie showed both showed their up there with the best in the country but it just wasn’t to be for them this weekend”.
The DJM Race Engineering team will be back at the track this weekend at the third round of the Golden Power Series at the Gippsland Kart Club.
