Retiring Formula One driver Felipe Massa is to be the new head of the CIK-FIA, the world governing body for karting.
Mass will replace Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, who has been in the role for a number of years.
The news comes from the FIA’s recent General Assembly where Jean Todt was re-elected for another four-year term as the FIA President.
Massa’s is an interesting appointment.
His racing career has been managed by Todt’s son, Nicolas. He also drove for Ferrari when Jean was in charge of the team.
As far as we’re aware, he’s had no significant involvement with karting in the recent past, other than as an occasional competitor.
