Archie Aces City of Melbourne

Archie Bristow took to the Panduit 36th Running of the City of Melbourne Go Kart Titles over the weekend, at the Go Kart Club of Victoria. Bristow, running in the Cadet 9 class was up against a strong field of near twenty drivers all vying for victory.

Archie had the ideal preparation going into the weekend taking out the club meet the weekend before the event. Bristow after using Friday practice for some final adjustments was ready to go for Saturday morning qualifying.

Bristow hit the track on Saturday morning for qualifying and was straight away on the pace and looking the main chance for pole position. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spa sponsored entry rocketed to the top of the times and had the rest of the field chasing his pole lap. Archie was able to improve as the session went on and locked in pole position for the heats by near half a second in an impressive display!

Archie was out of the best seat in the house for Saturday heat one and was looking to get a clean get away. The M J Pressure and Property Works backed entry led out of the opening corner and started to put his head down trying to open up margin on the rest of the field. Bristow was putting in smart and consistent lap times and was opening up a race winning margin. Archie was able to go on and take out the opening heat race by nearly three seconds in a great start to his racing weekend.

Bristow was out on track again on Saturday afternoon for his second heat race. The Parolin kart was working well in the early stages and margin was opened up by Archie very quickly. Bristow was opening huge margin and was lapping around a second quicker per lap then the rest of the field at times. Archie was able to make a clean sweep of Saturday taking a massive victory by over eleven seconds to finish the day.

Sunday morning was where Archie continued his weekend of racing in heat three. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spa backed entry once again nailed the start and led out of the opening lap. Bristow was again able to open up major margin on the field and was driver away from his competitors battling behind. Archie was able to take out his third consecutive heat win by over six seconds which had him off pole position for the all-important final!

The nerves were in the air before the seventeen lap final and Archie was ready to do battle. The M J Pressure and Property Works sponsored entry nailed the start once again and was looking to put the race to bed early. The next seventeen laps were nothing short of a masterclass from Bristow opening margin every lap and setting the fastest lap. Archie was able to take a clean sweep and win the final by a mammoth seventeen seconds in an amazing display!

Archie’s father Matthew spoke post weekend on his young driver’s breath taking performance. “Archie believed that he could do well this weekend and proved to me that he had the determination to succeed. His starts were amazing, pulling a gap on the first lap in all heats, getting his head down and driving away. Couldn’t have wished for a better result. So proud of our little man. He didn’t put a foot wrong all weekend. Thanks to all that get behind Archie and support him week after week with your kind words and encouragement”.

Bristow will be a driver to watch coming through the ranks in his karting career.
