Is it time for karting to look at having the rear bumper mounted via a push-back system? This would mean contact at either end of the kart could result in a penalty.
Currently, the driver leading a pack can employ a brake-test maneuver, or strategically prop mid-corner, to cause the following kart to hit them, and likely suffer a penalty. The concertina effect means multiple drivers could potentially be affected.
This is one of the problems with the current push-back nosecone system – innocent drivers are being penalised.
If the rear bumper could also be dislodged, this could really clean up the racing, and perhaps even reduce some of the blatant blocking that has proliferated in recent years.
