NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK: DAN ANDERSON

“We’ve been on the journey with our son racing, and getting started in karting can be quite intimidating, so that inspired us to try and make the entry to the sport much smoother.”

That’s the simple answer when you ask West Aussie Dan Anderson how he started volunteering in karting.

“Our whole family love motorsport, and even with me having a trade as a mechanic, it was still hard to find our way into getting started, but that desire to help new families has spread into lots of other roles now,” Dan says, in between phone calls managing operations of both the Cockburn and Wanneroo tracks as part of his role as Vice-President of Tiger Kart Club.

Dan has just completed 30 years as a police officer, and while a new career beckons, he’s unsure how he would fit a new job into his life.

“If everyone in the karting community knew just how much goes into maintaining a venue and running events, we’d be overrun with volunteers I think, but it’s a matter of asking the question of how you can help,” he said.

“I find people want to help, but they don’t know where to start, but it’s as simple as just asking your club and find out where you can contribute. There are so many roles that could take the pressure off someone who has multiple roles.”

Thankyou Dan! It’s legends like you that keep the wheels turning in Australian Karting!

Every Kart club could use more helpers, so if you’d like to volunteer, talk to your local club about ways you can get involved.

As part of National Volunteers week, we want to acknowledge the amazing people across the nation that keep the karting wheels turning. Without you, we simply can’t go racing!
