DRAMA FILLED FINALE AS RAIN HITS KART CHAMPIONSHIP
The Penrite Australian Kart Championship flirted with inclement weather all weekend in Ipswich for the second round, but heavy rain waited until the final race of the weekend to trigger a boilover.
As the field assembled on the grid for the KA2 final, just one third of the grid rolled the dice on running wet weather LeCont tyres, while the majority of front runners anticipated a dry race.
It was midrace when the heavens opened, leaving dominant front runner Levi Doessel to be swallowed up at lap 10 by Melbourne student Cooper Boyle who started 23rd on the grid with wet weather tyres.
Boyle would roll into Velcro Victory Lane ahead of Archer Bailey and Ryan Webster to fill a shock podium that has thrown the KA2 championship chase into uproar.
KZ2 also produced an upset with 14 year-old New Zealander Lachlan Tombleson leading from start to finish to hold off a hard charging Leon Cordato who started from the third row to finish second ahead of Jay Coul.

X30 was topped by Max Walton, Tyson McGill and Jace Matthews, while Harrison Hoey prevailed over Kiahn Burt and Jaiden Pope in TaG125. The pair of victories by Walton and Hoey, moved the Tony Kart brand to 50 round wins in the history of the Australia’s highest profile karting Championships.
Toby Spinks, Zac Heard and Jett Seraghi topped the KA3 Senior final, while the KA3 Junior spoils went to Jensen Damaschino, Monty Jamieson and Cruz Patroni.
The rivalry in Cadet 12 is beginning to draw attention, with Hudson Petta holding off Knox Black and Brock Nolan, however Cadet 9 claimed the most intense battle of the weekend, with Harry Lack and Max Gosling swapping the lead five times before Lack claimed the win over Gosling and Grayson McHugh.
The championship now heads to Townsville for the first time for round three on July 3-5, broadcast live and free on 7+ with free entry for spectators onsite.
As far at the series is concerned, Kip Foster, Harry Lack and Jensen Damaschino have taken over their respective championship points tallies, while the remaining five class leaders have retained their spot at the top from round 1. Progressive Championship points can be viewed on Speedhive HERE.
