A broken drawbar could not stop South Australian Sam Stephens from grabbing gold in Victoria at the second round of the 4SS City to Country Trail.
In fact, Stephens was undefeated in the 4SS Lights class at Cobden, the round forming part of the South West Kart Club’s March club race day.

‘Ringwood Kart Centre’ 4SS Juniors
After a great round of racing at ELKC for round 1 we had great numbers return for round 2 at Cobden.
Elijah Bonaccorso and Lucas Hunter Harvey looked the goods and Swan Hill member Jobe Forster showed signs of leading the way.
Forster put it on pole over Ewie Govan and LHH by a few tenths, with less than a second covering the top 5.
Lucas Harvey took 2 heat wins before a 6th place finish and then a 3rd in the final.
Govan and Forster dropped off early after great qualifying but recovered with silver for Forster in the final and Govan a 4th.
Championship leader Bonaccorso had a consistent weekend with always being near the front but wasn’t able to podium in the final, Jett Broderick was the surprise of the weekend taking victory in heat 3 and the final to let everyone know that there isn’t a clear cut favourite in juniors on any given weekend.
Other notables was Kieran Garland and James Davie 6th and 7th have the one lap pace to stay with the lead group but just need to put a whole session together if they want to see a podium soon! Frankie west still improving each race and having fun at the same time!
Lucas Hunter Harvey being top age and eligible to race Seniors next month will move on to 4SS Lights to go mix it with the big boys!
Rogers Boys Logan and Tyler raced ELKC club day in a bid to keep growing 4SS Juniors at their club day racing, hopefully we see them on the trail when there isn’t a clash weekend.
1 Jett Broderick
2 Jobe Forster
3 Lucas Hunter Harvey

4SS Medium
Cobden put on the sunshine for the weekend with a great turn out of 20 senior mediums for round 2 of the Trail.
South Australian UCR Silver Plate and Orange Plate holder Aidan Grigg and Chris Skinner with his New X7 entered to add to an already deep field.
Qualifying saw Grigg pinch it over Slama by 00.025 but we did see some top runners fair way back like Simon Arnold 10th and Will Wade 11th and with surprisingly finding some pace in qualifying was Justin Davie and newcomer Phil Hobbs 5th and 6th respectively.
Throughout the heats seen Grigg clean sweep all heats taking the win in the final to cap it off, Slama had the pace to stay with grigg but a 13th place finish after going out on the grass and stated 6th for the final to recovered to 4th in the final, Holland had consistent results giving him 3rd over all on points on the day but 5th in the final and give him the championship points lead for the first time in mediums ever that Slama won’t be on top.
Chris Skinner (SA) came through to finish on the podium in the final as progressed through each heat!
Other suprises in results Justin Davie have his best weekend of racing even with his son on debut in 4SS Juniors and Riley Stares with some really good finishing results also!
Marcellus Strangis mr inconsistency found him self back at the front after a horrible round 1 at Pucka, if Strangis can find form he can win on any day!
Also Will Wade with some hot form of recent fell off with a bad qualifying and then 7th overall in the final.
Thanks to all that travelled far and wide!
1 Aidan Grigg (SA)
2 Marcellus Strangis
3 Chris Skinner (SA)

4SS Light
South Australian Sam Stephens had some issues on his travels with a broken draw bar on his go kart trailer, instead of stopping he trucked on putting his kart in the back of his Ute and rolled into Cobden putting it on pole and going on to win all heats and take the final from Edward Bourke by 00.004 of a second in one of the closest finishes seen on the trail ever!
Patrick Mouser and Alex Sinni battle out for 3rd and 4th place on the podium respectively and our championship leader and Orange plate holder Will Burfitt seem to be in no man’s land with consistent 5th place finishes all day which is unusual for Will!
Ryan Notman had his best qualifying position of 2nd but couldn’t hold on and fell back to 7th and the a 5th in the final.
Bailey Franklin rookie season has shown he can run up front consistently with a 3rd in Heat 3 but finished 6th in the final.
Zoe Blake and Nyah O’Sullivan finished 8th and 9th some nice form over the day!
1 Sam Stephens
2 Edward Bourke
3 Alex Sinni

4SS Heavy
Nathan Daley with his 4 heat wins at pucka Round 1 looked to be a little more contested with Andy Bowie doing his first round of the trial and SA heavy’s James Place and Jack Ryan making the trek over also, Matthew Lawson looked good at pucka also entered even with the clash with ELKC club day on the same day.
Daley had his work cut Out for him this weekend with Place and Ryan gunning for a good finish and Andrew Hall with a new borrowed engine from DKS for the weekend after a lack of speed at Pucka.
Daley won the first 3 heats with the battle behind him, in the final Place and Ryan controlled the race but a unfortunate come together with Daley and Ryan into turn 1 took out Ryan and Andy Bowie on the outside who were all 3 wide, which gave Andrew Hall P3 in the Final.
Other notable results was Jeremy Bond who has been putting in the work gettin faster every time he goes out, Zeke Jones had some consistent results also.
A good haul of championship points for Daley to extend his lead with 7/8 heat wins so far this year!
1 James Place
2 Nathan Daley
3 Andrew Hall
