‘The Robbo’ TaG Titles

Another huge entry list of 288 drivers contested Round 2, The “Robbo” TAG Titles at Ipswich Kart Club on the 7th of March.

The Feature Class was TAG at Championship weight and Chris “Robbo” Robinson was in attendance to watch the Final and present the inaugural trophy to eventual winner Tyler Greenbury.

Ky Burke edged out Jordi Slater and Jye Flynn in Qualifying, with Brodie Norris and Greenbury rounding out the top 5. Greenbury was quick to get to the front in Heat 1 to lead Burke and Slater and drove away to a comfortable win from Burke and Norris coming through late to grab 3rd. Burke however copped a start penalty dropping him back to 3rd and elevating Norris to 2nd. Burke led for the 1st half of Heat 2 before Greenbury again took the lead on Lap 5 and held Burke at bay for the next 5 laps for a narrow win from Burke. Flynn filled out the placings. Greenbury led all the way in Heat 3 from Burke, with Flynn again 3rd across the line. Greenbury was able to get a nice gap at the front early on in the Final before Burke started reeling him in but ran out of laps, Greenbury winning by over half a second. Norris got the best of an early battle with Flynn to finish 3rd, Flynn was 4th and Jaxon Johnstone came from 11th starting position in the Final to finish 5th.

Josh Williams dominated KA3 Junior Heavy with 3 Heat wins and a convincing win in the Final, ahead of Lana Flack and Levi Doessel.

Ethan Turnbull was fastest in Qualifying for KA3 Junior Light. Jordy Butler, AJ Leggatt, Cruz Patroni and Monty Jamieson all looked good in the Heats, but Turnbull turned it on in the Final winning from Jamieson and Leggatt.

KA3 Senior at IKC Championship Rounds is very competitive with a heap of big name drivers contesting and with the likes of Jace Matthews, Jett Saraghi, Dominic Penman, Jye Flynn, Braxton Regan, Declan Matthews and Zac Heard toward the front throughout the Heats, the Final produced a great race with Flynn leading early from Penman and Regan with Declan Matthews, Heard and Saraghi battling behind. Flynn was able to get a small gap in front and drove away to an excellent win from Penman, with Heard moving forward in the later stages to grab 3rd.

With the huge amount of new Cadet drivers coming through the IKC Junior Development Program which includes the Come and Try Days, IKC scheduled in the Cadet P Plate only Class for this Round and an amazing 19 entries were received, 6 in Cadet 12P and 13 in Cadet 9P. Levi Kevill had a dominant day in Cadet 12P with 3 Heat wins and then a massive victory in the Final ahead of Natalie Edmunds and Ethan Nitschke. Loic Bucher and Jaxon Martin were Heat winners in Cadet 9P, but Bucher had a huge win in the Final ahead of Martin and then Kai Austen.

Harry Lack, Vinny Missen, Grayson McPhee and Lennox Fielding were the quick kids during the Heats and Lack led early in the Final before Missen took over the lead and held Lack out for his 1st Finals win at Ipswich. Fielding had a lonely drive to 3rd.

Paige Flack put in a brilliant fast time to lead qualifying in Cadet 12, ahead of Riccardo Johnston and Carter Grother. All 3 were to win a Heat and along with Jax Fuller put on a great 4 way battle in the Final. Flack winning from Grother and Fuller.

Adam Wood and Hudson Heath were the frontrunners in the Heats in DD2 and continued that battle into the Final where Wood built a good gap early before Heath reeled him back in towards the end of the Final, but Wood held on from Heath with Scott Cleveland bouncing back from some bad luck in the Heats to finish 3rd in the Final.

KA3 Senior Masters will run at selected IKC Championship Rounds this year and Jumpei Morita dominated with 3 Heat wins and a huge win in the Final from Jeremy Knight and Craig Lawson.

In TAG Restricted Medium, the 3 fastest through the Heats were Hugo Kues-Sales, Rudy Farkas and Billy Whitaker and these 3 were the clear leaders in the Final. Kues-Sales went to a comfortable lead early before Whitaker reeled him in a bit during the 2nd half of the Final to close the gap but Kues-Sales had a strong win from Whitaker and then Farkas in 3rd.

Jack Doessel, Quade Powers and Declan Matthews were Heat winners in TAG Restricted Light. In what expected to be the usual close affair in the Final didn’t eventuate as Matthews went to a solid lead early and kept building it over Jack Munro and then Doessel. Matthews eventually winning by over 2 seconds from Munro with Doessel a further 2 seconds back in a lonely 3rd.

Regan Payne was very dominant in the TAG Restricted Masters Heats winning all 3 comfortably, but in the Final Aaron Rabjones lifted and took the lead early from Payne and these 2 put on a sensational show of racing with Payne eventually getting past on Lap 7 to take the lead but Rabjones kept the pressure on and pushed Payne all the way. Payne eventually crossing the line 1st with Rabjones 2nd and Scott Campbell having a great result to lift himself on to the podium in 3rd.

With no race meeting scheduled in April, the next club round at IKC will not be until Saturday the 2nd of May, which is only 2 weeks prior to the AKC Round at IKC on May 15th, 16th and 17th. This Round will be the KA100 Titles and the Feature Classes will be KA3 Senior, KA3 Junior Light and KA3 Junior Heavy.
