from FIA Karting

The FIA International Court of Appeal was called upon to rule on three occasions following appeals lodged by Competitors in the 2025 FIA European Karting Championships in the KZ and OK-Junior categories.

  • In addition to the Court’s confirmation of the decisions made by the stewards at the event, one of the verdicts had a particular impact on the final rankings of the European Junior Championship: the disqualification of Noah Baglin from the Competition in Viterbo propelled Australian driver William Calleja to second place in the final classification of the European Junior Championship.

Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – Junior // Round 3, Viterbo

Two competitors appealed against stewards’ decisions during the third round of the 2025 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – Junior, held in Viterbo, Italy: Prema Racing appealed against the stewards’ decision to disqualify Noah Baglin from the Competition for “bad behaviour”, while VictoryLane appealed against the decision to disqualify driver Luka Scelles from Heat B-C for “causing a collision”.

In both cases, the International Court of Appeal upheld the stewards’ decisions and ordered the appellants to pay the costs. As a result of these verdicts, the Competition rankings were amended, resulting in the loss of Championship points for driver Luka Scelles and the cancellation of all Championship points for this third Competition for driver Noah Baglin. The confirmation of this latter sanction significantly alters the final standings of the Championship, which consisted of four Competitions, as Noah Baglin is relegated from second to third place. Australian driver William Calleja, competing for Forza Racing in an Exprit-TM-Maxxis, is promoted to runner-up in the 2025 FIA Karting European Championship – Junior.

Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ // Round 1, Chiva-Valencia

During the first round of the 2025 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, held in Valencia, Formula K SRP Factory Team appealed against the stewards’ decision to disqualify their driver David Trefilov for an “unsafe manoeuvre” in the first qualifying heat. After a hearing in Paris, analysis of the available video footage and arguments from both parties, the four judges of the International Court of Appeal upheld the stewards’ decision, rejected the appeal and ordered the appellant to pay the costs. Various rankings in that Competition were therefore amended, resulting in the loss of championship points for David Trefilov in the final Drivers’ classification and for Formula K SRP in the annual Teams’ classification.

Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 Masters // Single round, Sarno-Napoli

Lastly, during the FIA Karting European Championship in the KZ2 Masters category, contested over a single competition in Sarno-Napoli, two Competitors expressed their intention to appeal against the stewards’ decisions pronounced at the end of Qualifying Practice. These competitors were IPK Factory Team and KCS, acting respectively on behalf of drivers Davide Fore (penalised with the cancellation of his best time for a “bad manoeuvre”) and Andrea Spagni (penalised with disqualification from the session for “work on the kart on the pre-grid”). At the end of the Competition, neither Competitor confirmed their appeal within the regulatory 96 hours. During a remote hearing, the stewards heard the Competitors and Drivers again and pronounced their disqualification from the Competition, ruling that the suspensive effect from which they had benefited as a result of their intention to appeal, which was not followed up, had distorted the results of the Competition.
