Hamish Campbell – FIA Karting Academy Trophy Round 2 Wrap-Up | Mülsen, Germany.
Queensland’s rising karting talent Hamish Campbell endured a challenging outing at Round 2 of the 2025 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, held at the high-speed Mülsen circuit in Germany.
Following a promising opening round in Valencia, Spain, where his pace and racecraft drew international attention, Hamish entered Mülsen with momentum, only to encounter a weekend marked by misfortune and setbacks.
Campbell unable to secure a successful tow still managed to qualified 10th overall in a fiercely competitive field of 52 international drivers, finishing just 0.340 seconds off pole, which was secured by France’s Maël Le Marchand.
The opening heat saw Hamish demonstrate strong pace and positioning, moving into second early in the race, and crossing the line in third, however contact on the final lap led to a disqualification, nullifying his result.
In Heat 2, a first-corner incident forced him into retirement (DNF), and a penalty in Heat 3 added further difficulty to an already uphill battle.
Unable to progress to the 36-driver Final, Hamish was ultimately classified 46th overall for the round, an unrepresentative finish that belied his potential and pace.
This outcome marks a temporary setback in what has otherwise been a promising FIA international debut season. In Valencia’s Round 1, Hamish overcame mechanical issues in qualifying to post the fastest lap in Heat 3 and fought back to finish 15th in the Final, despite a time penalty. That performance had solidified him as a contender to watch heading into Mülsen.
While the results in Germany did not reflect his capabilities, Hamish remains fully committed to the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, which concludes with Round 3 in Cremona, Italy this September. The one-make format of the Academy Trophy demands equal parts racecraft, adaptability, and composure, qualities Hamish continues to develop with strength and maturity.
Backed by Tony Kart Australia, Hamish will now regroup, and shift focus to an intensive race schedule in the lead-up to Cremona. That includes two major international events in Asia and four key domestic races, all of which offer opportunities to sharpen his form and build confidence for a strong finish to his FIA campaign.
Despite the setbacks in Mülsen, Hamish Campbell and his team remain positive and focused. The experience gained on the international stage has only strengthened his resolve, and with his trademark determination undiminished, he remains a genuine contender as the 2025 FIA Karting Academy Trophy approaches its final round.
