from FIA Karting
At its meeting on 10th June 2025, the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) took the following decisions concerning karting.
Sporting decisions
1. Creation of the new FIA Karting World Cup GKP “Arrive & Drive”
The WMSC approved the award of the organisation of the first FIA Karting GKP “Arrive & Drive” World Cup, scheduled for 14th-16 November 2025 at the LYL International Circuit in Malaysia. This event is part of the FIA’s ‘Global Karting Plan’, which notably aims to democratise access to top-level karting through a ‘turnkey’ formula.
The main features of this competition are:
- Use of single-make equipment (chassis, two-stroke engine, Option tyres, fuel) provided by the OTK Group, which was selected as sole supplier following a call for tenders.
- Two categories: Junior (12 to 14 years) and Senior (14 to 19 years), each with up to 54 participants.
- A two-stage registration phase: priority given to ASNs until 13th August, then open to all if there are any places left.
- The top three drivers in each category will be invited to the Karting Excellence Centre selection, along with the winners of each of the other 2025 FIA Karting Championships. The Senior winner of this programme will receive a grant for a season in F4, and the Junior winner a budget for an additional season in karting.
2. Exceptional dispensation for the 2025 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship
Following a situation that led to the absence of several drivers during scrutineering for the first competition of the 2025 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, the WMSC has approved an exemption allowing the European title to be awarded despite the failure to meet the minimum number of participants initially required at round 1.
3. Supply of tyres for the 2025 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ/KZ2, Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship – KZ and Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2
At the request of the Manufacturer and its distributor following the findings of the Dunlop Prime (DDM) tyres in Spain and during recent private tests, the latter will be replaced by Dunlop Option (DDH) tyres, which are considered safer and more reliable. This change will come into effect from the second competition in the categories concerned in Italy (19th-22th June 2025).
Technical decisions
1. Amendment to the technical regulations concerning the front fairing (Group 3 – Mini/Mini XS)
In order to ensure the integrity of the front fairing fixing system and to standardise its installation:
- A minimum distance of 60.1mm between the lower and upper tubes of the front bumper is required.
- A gap of at least 1mm must be maintained between the edges of the mounting kit and the hook clamps securing the front fairing.
2. Amendments to the articles relating to the ignition system and transmission ratio for Mini categories
From 1st January 2026, the Mini and MiniXS categories must use a CIK-FIA-approved ignition system with an integrated rev limiter and a minimum transmission ratio (using a chain and type 219 sprockets):
- Mini: maximum revs of 13,000 rpm; minimum gear ratio of 11/75.
- MiniXS: maximum speed 12,000 rpm; minimum gear ratio 11/73.
The aim of these changes is to reduce performance and maximum speeds to improve safety while maintaining the educational relevance of these categories for young drivers.
