Tasmanian Champions

With the sink hole fixed, the Launceston Kart Club hosted the 2024 Tasmanian Kart Championship on the weekend, and two drivers walked away with two titles.

Mainlanders Jackson Souslin-Harlow and Joshua Herne both earned two blue plates at an event that saw drivers of all ages and experience levels battling it out across a variety of categories.

In the KA3 Masters class, Mark Seddon claimed victory ahead of Jonathan McDonald in second and Alan Fitzpatrick in third, solidifying his dominance on the track. McDonald led the initial start to the final before Seddon overtook him with 6 laps to go and never looked back to secure the blue plate.

Meanwhile, the Cadet 9 category saw Luke Robinson take the top spot, with Felix Sim and Hudson Kelly rounding out the podium in second and third, respectively. It was a cracking battle between the three and Tasmania’s own Eli White who was in contention all race, Sim’s in the end held on to secure the win!

The KA3 Light race was a thrilling contest, with Max Walton emerging victorious after trading heat with Luke Trost who secured second place in the final, while Amos Orr finished in third.

In KA3 Junior Heavy, Patrick Buckley clutched up a win in the win, followed by Max Mangano in second and Mason Woods in third but it wasn’t without excitement. Hobart’s own Harry Bresnehan looked strong and on track to take the win before an mechanical issue saw him drop out of the race, with Buckley, Mangano, Woods & Buster Bailey battling it out for the podium.

The TAG 125 Medium Restricted category saw Joshua Herne take the win, with Troy Stone and Andrew Sotiropoulos finishing in second and third. Herne slipped back to 3rd initially on the first lap but proved to be too strong after retaking the lead and never looking back.

Jackson Souslin-Harlow triumphed in the KA3 Senior Medium class, edging out Zane Wyatt and Zach Findlay, who placed second and third. Wyatt had the lead in the early stages with Souslin-Harlow on his tail before making a move that would seal him the win. Findlay & Launceston’s Toby Callow would have a cracking battle for the final spot on the podium with Findlay edging him out.

In the KA3 Junior Light class, Max Mangano continued his strong performance with a first-place finish, while Patrick Buckley took second and Oskar Hennock rounded out the podium in third. Manango was leading for the entire of the final but had huge pressure from the catching field behind who worked together to bring the gap down, but Manango drove faultlessly to secure the win!

The TAG 125 race was another highlight, with Jackson Souslin-Harlow leading the way to victory, followed by Amos Orr in second and Max Walton in third. Orr kept the pressure on Souslin-Harlow the entire race, but proved to be just too strong and secured the win along with the KA3 Medium win!

Meanwhile, in the 125 Restricted Heavy race, Joshua Herne claimed another win, with David Fidlar and Jason Brown finishing second and third! Initially Marcus Howe was on the podium but a post race penalty for the 2023 champion saw him relegated outside of the top 3.

Finally, the Cadet 12 race saw Mason Martin top the field, while Casper Anderson and Wil Cains took second and third. Anderson Led the first half of the race before Martin made the opportunistic move to take the lead, Anderson pushed the rest of the race to close the gap but unfortunately ran out of laps.

“The dust has only just settled from the 2024 Tassie State Championship. Congratulations to all the blue-plate winners & podium place getters. All the competitor’s local and interstate thank you for supporting LKC and putting on an awesome show, there was some great racing all weekend.

Thank you to Robert Motbey & all the officials local & interstate that gave up their time to run our biggest race meeting of the year, without you guys & gals there would be no racing.
