Top Victorian karter Henry Johnstone has announced he will retire from driving karts at the conclusion of the 2024 season and concentrate on driver training and team management.
“This may be a shock, but I’ve achieved all the things I once said would make me happy” he posted on social media.
“I’ve pivoted my motivation to bringing the HJR Driver Coach team to the Australian Kart Championship in 2025.”
Johnstone has secured multiple pole positions, round wins and podium finishes at AKC level.
Ben Roehlen of Pace Images has sponsored Johnstone for the past seven years.
“Henry has been a part of the Pace Images family since 2017” Ben explained.
“From his debut in the KZ2 class at only 16 years old to now, I’ve had the privilege of sponsoring him through countless highs and a few lows, always with a front-row seat to his determination and skill on the track.
“Spending nights of AKC events listening to Henry and Mark debriefing their day, pulling apart data and working on a plan for the next day has given a great insight into their passion and determination.
“It’s been more than just a sponsorship; it’s been a friendship with the Anarchy Kartsport / Johnstone family.”.
“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey and believed in me to give me a shot at the top level” Henry continued.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to stand on the top step multiple times in KZ and take many pole positions. Personally, that is enough to say ‘told you so’ to the non-believers.
“It’s going to be special having my last AKC event in my home state, one last shot to stand on the top step.”
