Calicorse Vic Titles Report

Queensland based and newly formed Calicorse continued their debut season over the weekend at a scorching Victorian Kart Championships. The four-driver team across 2 classes were ready to chase blue plate glory with Jack Larsen and Jay Kostecki competing in the oversubscribed Cadet 12 class, while Ky Burke and Annabel Kennedy took on the KA2 Junior category.

Team owner Cian Fothergill was looking to continue his teams strong start to his 2024 season. Jack Larsen and Jay Kostecki were first to take the start in the Cadet 12 ranks and Larsen set a hot pace in qualifying to land in 3rd position overall! Kostecki had a tougher time landing outside of the top 20 in position 25 overall with work to do.

Larsen continued his strong weekend across the three heats with 2 heat victories and a position 3 in the other heat, which had him off the front row for the championship decider! Kostecki was able to bounce back from his poor qualifying improving in every heat with a 7th in heat 1, 6th in heat 2 and 3rd in heat 3 which had him out of position 7 for the final.

Larsen was able to drive a smooth calculated final and make his way to the front in the middle stages of the races. Larsen was able to hold his nerve and take the win in the Victorian Kart Championship and a debut state championship for Calicorse. Kostecki was able to continue the strong results making his way forward in the championship final to jump on the podium in 3rd position overall in a double podium result for Calicorse!

KA2 Junior was the second class at the championship with Calicorse presence. Ky Burke and Annabel Kennedy took the start with both drivers showing strong pace across practice. Qualifying was mixed results for the team with Burke showing strong pace and landing in 5th spot, while Kennedy was unfortunately only able to turn 1 lap in qualifying before an issue put her in position 25. Both drivers continued their mix results in the heats with Burke having a DNF in heat 1, bouncing back for position 3 in heat 2 and unfortunately finishing down the order in 14th for the final heat, after running inside the top 10. Kennedy was able to move into the top 10 across her heats and was running as high as 5th spot overall in heat 3 before being involved in another competitor’s incident resulting in a DNF.

Kennedy was able to work her way into position 12 overall in the final, making her way onto the edge of the top 10 and setting times as fast as the leaders. Burke had a final and weekend to forget being involved in another incident through no fault of his own after running inside the top 10 in the championship final.

Fothergill was stoked post weekend about the teams first championship win. “What a great drive by Jack this weekend! He’s put in a massive 6 months and to take out the Victorian title and have Jay up on the podium with him after a massive fight back was awesome to see. Ky and Annabel both had one of those weekends but showed strong pace that they can match it with the best drivers in the countries. Calicorse will continue to look for strong results and we’re looking forward to a big 2024 season”.

Calicorse will be back in Victoria next month for the second round of the SP Tools Australian Kart Championships at Eastern Lions Kart Club.
