William Calleja has scored another international podium, placing second at the Franciacorta round of the WSK Super Master Series on the weekend.
Calleja qualified 12th but moved up the order to start P2 in the final. After leading many laps, he lost the lead in the final lap but held back a charging pack for the runner-up placing.
He leads the championship heading into the final round at Sarno next month.
Australia’s other Mini driver, Hudson Petta in the Under 10 category, put in a mighty recovery across the weekend. After qualifying in 54th, the Energy Corse driver scraped through to the final and was classified 18th.
Another to feature was Lewis Francis who qualified an excellent 9th in the 64-strong OK field. Off grid 8 for the final, he was punted out of the race at the second corner.
“The video tells the story” he posted on social media. “Obviously I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to complete the final (but) many positives from the weekend in terms of speed and racing.”
Francis said he will be testing in Valencia, Spain, this week ahead of two races there and the start of the 2024 FIA European Championship.
