From 3 Rounds To 2

from FIA Karting

The World Motor Sport Council has approved a partial reworking of the 2024 FIA Karting Championship and Cup calendar for the KZ categories.

The venue and date initially announced for the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship in the KZ category remain unchanged: the competition will take place in Portimao, Portugal on 11-13 October 2024. The FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2 and the FIA Karting International Masters Super Cup – KZ2 will complete the event line-up as planned.

The FIA Karting European Championships for the three gearbox kart categories have seen their calendar modified. The KZ and KZ2 Championships have been reduced from 3 to 2 competitions, returning to the same format as in recent years. Instead of starting in April, the KZ, KZ2 and KZ2 Masters Championships will kick off on 5-7 July, at the Motorland Aragon track in Alcaniz, Spain. The second and final round of the European Championships will take place from August 30 to September 1 at Val Vibrata in Italy.

Entries for the FIA Karting European Championships in KZ, KZ2 and KZ Masters will be open from 2 April 2024. Entry applications for the FIA Karting World Championship – KZ, the FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2 and the FIA Karting International Masters Super Cup – KZ2 will be accepted from 15 July 2024.

CIK-FIA President Akbar Ebrahim said: “This revised European Championship calendar for the KZ categories is the culmination of several months of negotiations, following an exceptional situation on the tyre supply that the CIK-FIA has dealt with. It is never ideal to have to change a programme and we understand the inconvenience this can cause to teams, drivers and organisers who had prepared for an earlier start to the season. We regret this inconvenience, but it was vital to ensure that the championships were maintained.”

The maintenance of the competitions was made possible thanks to the agreement reached with Anderson CSK and Dunlop for the supply of tyres. The KZ categories are incredibly important to the FIA and their success can be measured by the enthusiasm they generate among drivers whose numbers are growing year on year. 2023 produced some great races and I am certain that the level of competition and spectacle will be even higher in 2024.”
