The International Karting Commission has approved the roll-out of a ‘National’ version of its driver ranking system, to by used by ASNs around the world.
“Buoyed by the success of its inaugural year and the enthusiasm shown by the ASNs, the CIK-FIA is rolling out a ‘National’ version of its ranking” a summary document from the recent World Motor Sport Council meeting stated.
The roll-out will enable ASNs wishing to do so to manage their own calendar of Regional – National events and establish their own rankings based on their existing classes. They can then qualify and honour drivers as they see fit. For example, this ranking could be used to select drivers for the 2024 Motorsport Games.
The CIK-FIA has also approved a new ‘Class 4’ to target the 4-stroke and electric rental kart market and leisure karting events “with the aim of incorporating all forms of practice and promoting diversity”.
The organisation has identified this is the most economical and affordable form of the sport and wishes to include it for the many drivers taking part in leisure events around the world.
Additionally, electric drivetrain features were integrated into the FIA-CIK Technical and Approval Regulations.
