A couple of Aussie kids contested the fifth and final round of the Italian Karting Championship at Franciacorta on the weekend and both finished the series well inside the top ten.
William Calleja enjoyed a fantastic event, culminating in another win in Europe. Calleja (Babyrace, Parolin/IAME) qualified 5th in the Mini category and was ranked third having won the opening heat. He then won the first final by over a second before taking P5 in Final Two, just 0.421s off the win and clocking fastest lap.
The productive weekend saw him seal second place in the championship.
“An excellent weekend at Franciacorta where we had great pace” he posted on Facebook. “I was able to push the limits. All of this is not possible without my amazing team.”
Meanwhile in Mini Under 10, Sebastian Eskandari-Marandi (Tony Kart Racing Team, Tony Kart/Vortex) claimed eighth in the championship which attracted over 70 drivers.
The Queenslander qualified 9th and carded 3rd and 7th in the heats to be ranked fifth. A penalty in Final One knocked him out of the top ten (classified 15th) before recovering to 7th in Final Two.
