TITLE CONFIRMED – The 2023/24 Queensland Speedway Kart Title will be held at McCosker Gladstone Speedway on April 20. This is a new venue that opened this year. In announcing the news, the Speedway Karting Association of Australasia (SKAA) took the opportunity to thank the Gladstone Club for hosting the title. “The event will be organised by Maryborough, Sunstate and Bundaberg clubs collectively” SKAA posted. “It’s great to see clubs working together to run these events and helping to bring Speedway Karting to new and exciting tracks.” The Queensland Title takes place the week prior to the Australian Title at Fraser Shores Maryborough Speedway, April 26 to 28.

INDUSTRY – Rotax is looking to increase its market share in the United States by appointing further dealers across North America. “BRP Rotax along with the two United States distribution partners, J3 Competition and RTX USA, are looking to extend the Rotax karting sales and service network throughout the country” a press release stated. Both distribution partners, plus a representative from Rotax (who has relocated to the USA until the season concludes), will be present at the RMC US Trophy Final in September to discuss dealership opportunities based on distributor territory.
KARTING GAMES – An extra karting event has been added to the third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games that will take place in Spain on October 23-27. ‘Karting Mini’ for drivers aged between eight and 11 will be added to the line-up that already includes Junior and Senior Sprint categories, Karting Endurance (where the drivers must now be a female/male pairing aged 14 or over) and Karting Slalom for electric karts.
EVENT – Jess Golding Motorsport is the presenting sponsor for this year’s Great Barrier Reef Titles at the Whitsunday MotoSports Club. “Honoured to be supporting grassroots Karting in regional areas” Golding posted on Facebook.
RIP BROWNY – Geelong Kart Club has advised the sad passing of Life Member, Jeffrey Brown. “Jeff over several decades was a fierce competitor, official and life member” the club posted. “Due to ill health Jeff had not been around for the last few years but those who knew him will never forget their time with Jeff and those brilliant one on one conversations. Jeff was a well known personality around the karting community and is sadly missed. Rest in peace Jeff.”

GRAND INVASION– A bunch of Canadians and Mexicans are expected to cross the border into the United States to compete for some of the final seats available in the 2023 Rotax Grand Finals in Bahrain. Six tickets are up for grabs, two in Mini MAX and one each for Junior, Senior, Masters MAX and DD2. A host of engine prep shops are offering engine rentals for the event, allowing non-Rotaxers the chance to compete. The US Trophy Final takes place at New Castle Motorsports Park, Indiana, on September 14-17.
BACK TO THE FUTURE – After the 2022 Australian Dirt Kart Title was wiped out by Mother Nature, AIDKA has announced nominations for the 2022 event (yes, you read that correct) are now open. Hosted by Tatiara Karting Club in South Australia, the re-scheduled race meet will take place from Thursday 26th October to Sunday 29th October 2023. CONGRATS – Congratulations are in order for Australian karters Joanne Ciconte and Jure Portelli. The duo was selected as finalists in the FIA Women in Motorsport Girls on Track Rising Stars program for 2023.
