Oversubscribed Club Day

by Russell Innes, IKC

With 340 entries already received and still 3 weeks to go before the event, Round 5 of the Ipswich Kart Club Championships will be massive and could potentially go close to a total of 400 entries.

Held over 2 days, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of June, Round 5 of the IKC Championship will have all the normal club championship classes on offer, plus X30, plus KA2 Junior and Gearbox who will both be contesting the 3rd and Final Round of the Queensland Pineapple Cup.

All classes (except Qld Open Performance and Cadet P’s) will start Saturday morning with a Timed Practice session, which will then lead into Qualifying and then 2 Heats, before coming back on Sunday morning for a 3rd Heat and the Final. Queensland Open Performance will not do the Timed Practice and Qualifying and instead will just contest 3 Heats with random grid draw and a Final all on Saturday, whilst the Cadet P class will only race on the Sunday with 3 Heats and a Final. The Cadet P class will also have free entry for this Round.

Due to the huge entry numbers in previous club rounds, IKC will run Cadet 12 and KA3 Junior Light in an oversubscribed format, so these 2 classes will have a maximum of 60 entries and already both classes have over 50 entries each. Cadet 12 and KA3 Junior Light will therefore run the A, B, C, Heat format and after the completion of all their Heats, the top 35 on points will go through to the Final, whilst those on points from 36th will contest a Last Chance Qualifier race to secure the last 5 spots on the grid for their Final.

As always, unofficial Friday Practice will be available from 8.30am until 7.00pm, but everyone is reminded that under the AKC Registration rules, only those AKC competitors who have Ipswich Kart Club as their nominated test track or have a KA Exemption will be allowed to practice on the Friday.
