Archie Earns Red Plate

Archie Bristow headed to the Goulburn Valley Kart Club for the annual “red plate” Australasian Kart Titles over the weekend. Bristow once again racing in the Cadet 9 class, was looking to add another major title to his 2022 resume.

Archie was up against one off the best Cadet 9 drivers in the country, 2 time Australian Kart Championship round winner Jenson Damaschino. Bristow used his 2 practice sessions on Saturday morning to get his eye in and get himself ready for his all important qualifying session.

Archie hit the track for qualifying and was straight away in the battle for pole position against local driver Damaschino. Bristow put himself to the top of the times by just under a tenth of a second and was able to grab the all-important pole position!

Heat 1 was the first race of the weekend for Archie where he was looking to start on a winning note. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spas sponsored entry got a clean get away but slotted into 2nd spot. Bristow tried to make his way up into the lead in the early stages but Damaschino was holding him at bay. Archie was able to dig deep and make a move for the lead in the dying stages of the race. Bristow crossed the line in position 1 to take the opening race.

Bristow was able to get the all important jump in heat 2 and lead out of the opening corner and opening lap. The M J Pressure and Property Works supported entry was able to open up margin as the race went on over the rest of the field. Archie was able to finish Saturday by taking pole position, heat 1 and heat 2 by nearly 3 seconds in a dominate day of racing.

Heat 3 was on Sunday morning and Archie was excited to try and keep his perfect weekend going. Bristow dropped down to 2nd spot off the start line but was once again showing excellent pace to challenge for the lead. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spas backed entry was able to take the lead on lap 3 and open up margin on the rest of the field. Archie made it 3 from 3 taking a second and a half win and putting him off pole position for the all-important final.

The nerves were high as Bristow was looking to claim another major title in his blockbuster 2022 season. The M J Pressure and Property Works sponsored entry dropped down to position 2 and the race was on for the title. Archie made a move on lap 5 to retake the lead and from there was able to open up a race winning margin. Bristow crossed the line to take the win by over 4 seconds and take home the coveted red plate!

Archie’s father Matthew spoke post weekend on his young driver’s stellar weekend. “What a great weekend. The weather was fantastic and Goulburn Valley Kart club put on an awesome event. Archie loves this little track and was determined to go home with the Red Plate. His first plate will be one that he will always remember and hopefully there will be more to come in the future. Great racing and sportsmanship by all of the Cadet 9 drivers. We would like to thank everyone involved with putting this amazing event together. This will be one of the first events scheduled on our 2023 race calendar”.

Bristow will be back on track this weekend for the 5th round of the Golden Power Series at the Rochester Kart Club.
