Denzil Dominates Tassie Statewide Round

Denzil Sargent continued his racing back in Tasmania over the weekend at the final round of the Karting Tasmania Statewide Series.

Sargent, fresh off a strong weekend at the mainland Panduit City of Melbourne Kart Titles which netted a podium result, was looking to wrap up the State Wide Series. Denzil was the leading of the championship going into the final round and he knew qualifying was going to be an important stage of the weekend!

Saturday afternoon was when Denzil hit the track for qualifying and his Tony Kart Australia entry was quickly on song and on pace. Sargent went to the top of the times early in the session and was continually punching out strong lap times. Denzil was able to put in a scintillating performance and excellent pace to land himself on pole position by a mammoth 4 tenths of a second against his other 12 drivers.

Sargent had his opening heat race on Saturday afternoon and was looking to get away cleanly. Denzil had a terrific start and led out of the opening lap and was immediately opening up margin in his Tony Kart entry. Sargent was putting in some impressive laps and was around 6 tenths quicker then his rivals behind him. Denzil was able to take out the opening heat win by a huge 7 seconds and set the fastest lap of the race!

Heat 2 was on Sunday morning under tough grip conditions. Sargent was once again able to nail the start and was immediately opening up margin on the rest of his competitors. The Tony Kart entry was working well and Denzil was streaking away from the rest of the field. Sargent was able to back up his heat 1 victory with another demolition job in heat 2, taking the win by over 9 seconds and once again setting the fastest lap of the race!

Sargent was off pole position for the final heat race before the final and was once again looking to get a clean get away. Denzil led out of the opening lap but had Angus Milne putting in a challenge behind and not letting the leader get away. Sargent in his Tony Kart entry was able to dig deep and open up over a second margin as the race went on. Denzil was able to make it 3 from 3 taking out the final heat and having him off pole position for the final race.

The 13 driver field was ready to do battle in the all-important final and Denzil was ready to try and make a clean sweep of races. Sargent once again nailed the start leading at the end of lap 1 and was looking to make margin in the early stages. The Tony Kart was working well as it had all weekend and Denzil was pulling away from the rest of the field. Sargent was able to put in another breath taking performance taking a 7 second victory, setting the fastest lap and clean sweeping the final round of the series!

Denzil’s parents spoke post weekend on their young drivers results. “It’s been an excellent few weekends for Denzil. This weekend to win all four races and to wrap up the championship we couldn’t have asked for much more. A big thanks goes out to Tony Kart Australia for their awesome chassis and we look forward to the rest of 2022”.

Sargent will be one to watch in the back end of the 2022 season!
