More Points for Pollard at GPS Round

Liam Pollard continued his Golden Power Series assault over the weekend at the fourth round of the championship! Pollard was once again racing in the growing and competitive TAG 125 Heavy class with some of the best drivers in the state taking the start.

With multiple former state champions and high-quality racers hitting the Eastern Lions Kart Circuit, Pollard was in for an intense weekend of karting! Early Saturday afternoon was Pollards qualifying session, where he was looking to put himself in the battle for key grid spots. The Hafele sponsored entry was immediately in the heat of battle and pushing on edge of the top ten in the high pace field. Liam completed a quick lap that dropped him inside the top ten drivers and he was looking to make his way further up the field. Pollard stopped the clock with the ninth fastest time, putting himself off the inside of the fifth row for his opening two heats.

Pollard had his first heat later Saturday afternoon and was looking to move his way up the field. The DSI engines powered karter got a lighting start and was able to avoid trouble and move up to fourth spot in the opening lap and put himself right in the front group. Liam showed improved pace and was battling inside the top five before dropping a couple of spots at the back end of the race. Pollard was able to show great improvement in the opening heat crossing the line in sixth spot overall!

Sunday morning was the starting point for heat two and Liam was looking to move forward in a similar fashion to heat one. The Moment Maintenance sponsored entry had a start completely opposite to heat one, being involved in an incident and dropping outside the top ten. Pollard dug deep and started to put in smooth lap times and make his way forward through the field. In an excellent recovery, Liam was once again able to move his way into the top ten and come home with seventh position!

Position six was the starting point for heat three with Pollard wanting to continue his progress forward. The Hafele sponsored entry settled into position eight after the opening lap and was looking to move his way back up. Liam sat in position eight for the opening half of the race, before making a move into seventh on lap five. Pollard was able to come home with another strong top ten finish of seventh spot and he was looking to the final to try and grab his best result.

Liam was once again on the third row of the grid in sixth position overall. The DSI Engines backed entry didn’t get the start he was after, dropping down to position nine and having work to do. Pollard got his head down and was able to push his way forward across the twelve lap final, hunting after the top five. Liam finished his weekend on a high note once again coming home in the top ten in an awesome seventh position overall!

Liam’s father Cameron spoke post weekend on his sons racing. “We had a consistent weekend considering we had some electrical gremlins with the kart. Once we got these sorted we had great pace but just at the wrong end of the weekend. Liam never gave up and I’m proud of his fight and determination”.

Pollard will be back at the fifth round of the Golden Power Series at the Rochester Kart Club in September.
