Driver PR: Liam Pollard, GPS Rnd 1

Liam Pollard is looking to make season 2022 his own! Pollard has moved classes into the TAG 125 Heavy ranks and started his season with a win at the Eastern Lions Kart Club February Club day.

Pollard started his assault on the Victorian Golden Power Series over the weekend out of the Goulburn Valley Kart Club. In a strong field of around ten drivers, Pollard was utilizing all his experience and knowledge to get a good start to his series!

Pollard put his foot to the floor and went out on track for his opening qualifying session. The Hafele sponsored entry immediately put himself in the top five and wasn’t far behind the leaders on lap speed. Liam was able to move up inside the top three drivers but was still a couple of tenths off the top two drivers. Pollard threw everything together for his best flying lap and was able to set the third fastest time and was the inside of the second row for the heats.

Pollard went out onto the circuit for heat one and was able to slot straight into position three off the start. Liam had closed the gap in lap speed to the front two and was lapping only a tenth slower and keeping with the top two in the early stages. As the race went on the Hafele backed entry showed strong improvement and came home in position three overall.

Heat two was the teams’ final race of Saturday and they made some kart changes looking to make improvements and potentially move up the order. Pollard slotted into position three and stalked the two leaders in the early stages once again. Pollard in his Hafele sponsored entry threw everything he had at it but crossed the line in position three. Due to a starting infringement, Liam moved up to position two and was now starting off the front row for the opening heat of the day on Sunday.

The battle restarted on Sunday and Pollard was looking to get across from the outside of the front row. Liam slotted into second spot but quickly came under attack by earlier pole sitter Thomas Hughes. Hughes made the move on the Hafele backed entry on lap two and Pollard was now doing everything he can to keep on the back of the top two. In another fast and consistent display of racing, Liam made it another third place finish leaving him on the inside of the front row for the final.

Pollard was once again off the front row but slotted into position three in the early stages. The Hafele backed entry once again on the back of the top two and looking to keep on the back of them. Liam had a great race gapping the rest of the field and coming home on the podium in third spot overall and grabbing excellent points for his championship.

Luke’s father spoke post-race. “The young bloke had a great weekend! He’s enjoying the class and to get a top three finish in every race and a podium finish in the final was great. A big thanks Hafele for all their support and bring on the next meeting”.

Pollard will be without a doubt one of the main contenders in the TAG Heavy class this season.
